Field Experience with Jetluber and V2

Back after summer

The first week after summer vacation, our team traveled to the northern parts of Sweden to install a new fiber cable between two splice wells. The existing cable had been damaged earlier during roadwork, and the goal was to replace it without disturbing the surrounding infrastructure.

Together with our client, we decided to dig a single access pit midway along the route. The total distance was 6,500 meters, allowing us to blow 3,800 meters in one direction and the remaining distance the other way. The duct was 14/10 mm, and the cable – a Nexans 24F Ultimate (5.8 mm) – provided excellent conditions for a long-distance installation.

Jetluber is an essential tool when it comes to achieving these long distances. From my experience, it can extend the blowing range by 20–30%, especially on installations over several kilometers. — Michael Walther, Fiber Technician

Setting up for long-distance blowing

We set up our Jetting V2 together with the Jetluber. After running cleaning plugs as usual, we started feeding the cable into the duct.

We began by blowing around 300 meters without air, then opened the air valve and activated the Jetluber. In the beginning, we kept short lubrication intervals — around every 5–8 seconds — since the cable speed was high, about 145–148 m/min.

As the speed gradually dropped, I increased the interval between lubrication strokes to avoid over-lubrication. At around 1,300 meters, we were running at 95–100 m/min, with 9 bar pressure and 15-second intervals between each lubrication.

Balancing speed and airflow

As we approached the next well after 3,500 meters, I decided to reduce the feed speed. The reason was simple — I wanted to maintain as much air volume as possible in the duct. The compressor was reaching its limit, having to power both the blowing machine and maintain airflow through such a long distance.

It became a balance between speed and air supply, since the compressor couldn’t provide enough airflow.

Eventually, the cable appeared at the far end. By then, the speed had decreased to 20 m/min, and we had extended the lubrication interval to 30 seconds.

The final stretch

After coiling off the rear section, the remaining 2,700 meters went smoothly. The duct conditions were good, and the setup worked exactly as intended.

IMPROVE YOUR INSTALLATION DISTANCE

Jetluber is an external unit designed to lubricate the cable during the blowing process — reducing friction between the cable and the inner duct. The result is smoother installation and the ability to reach significantly longer distances.

  • Adjustable intervals: Control how often lubricant is applied, depending on cable speed and conditions.

  • Air powered: Operates purely on air pressure – no electricity needed.

  • Efficient & clean: Applies just the right amount of Jetting Lube without overcoating the cable.

Jetluber is compatible with V2, V3, V4 Grizzon and can increase your installation distance by up to 20–30% on longer routes.
